July 2024 Tips - Supplemental Assignments
In addition to regular patrol duties, police officers may be tasked with supplemental assignments related to police investigations. These supplemental assignments, which could include gathering additional evidence, conducting follow-up interviews, or providing support, are crucial for ensuring thorough investigations. They allow officers to dedicate extra time and resources to specific cases, thereby contributing to the overall effectiveness of police investigations and the delivery of justice.
SUPPLEMENTAL ASSIGNMENTS
There are three methods for assigning a supplemental (or follow-up) to an existing case report:
When the incident number is known (All Users):
Find the initial call-for-service in the Call Log module and use the "Assign Case" button from the toolbar, right-click menu, or the "Actions" drop-down list.
When the incident number isn't known (All Users):
Using any of the Master Indexes (Address, Org, Person, or Vehicle), navigate to the "Cases" tab and select "Assign Case" from the right-click menu.
Admin Review Assignments (Supervisors and Administrators):
Alternatively, a supervisor (or any user accessing Administrative Review) can assign a supplemental using the "Assign Case" button from the toolbar, right-click menu, or the "Actions" drop-down list.
Regardless of the method used, personnel have the option to enter a 'Due Back Date' and 'Review Notes' when creating a supplemental assignment. This feature allows for better organization and tracking of tasks, ensuring that all assignments are completed in a timely manner and with the necessary information.
